In commemoration of Women’s Equality Day which marks the end of suffrage in America 101 years ago, The Space announces three evenings of the award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues, Thursday, Aug. 26 – Saturday, Aug. 28. Performances are nightly at 8 p.m. and feature a variety of Las Vegas’ best female talent. Tickets are $30 and available online at www.thespacelv.com. A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales benefit Dress for Success of Southern Nevada, the local affiliate of the international nonprofit that empowers women to thrive in work and life. Through its multi-faceted programs, Dress For Success Southern Nevada has helped more than 7,000 women in the greater Las Vegas area in their efforts toward self-sufficiency.
An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone, The Vagina Monologues introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.”
25 years since Eve Ensler’s play The Vagina Monologues shattered taboos, the stakes could not be higher. Women in this country and around the world are under-valued in both literal and figurative terms. Women are paid lower wages, are not afforded the same career advancement opportunities, deal with sexual harassment and discrimination, shoulder the vast majority of childcare responsibilities and costs, and face a myriad of healthcare disparities as well as not having full control over medical decisions about their own bodies. Nonetheless, women persist. A number of Las Vegas-based women who hold glass-shattering leadership positions will join in the conversation and reinforce the theme of this event: WOMEN FOR THE WIN!
Tickets are $30 not including applicable fees. Tickets are on sale now at www.thespacelv.com.
